Rare Aroid Aftercare Guide

Welcome to Obsessed With Aroids 🌿
Thank you for supporting our small business and adding a new plant to your collection. A little patience and consistent care will help your plant settle into its new home.
🌱 Settling Your Plant In
Some drooping or yellowing of an older leaf can occur after shipping. Give your plant time to adjust, but check any soft or mushy areas carefully.
For the first 24–48 hours:
-
Keep your plant in stable conditions with bright, indirect light.
-
Avoid harsh sunlight, cold draughts and heaters.
-
Gradually introduce it to your growing environment.
-
Avoid unnecessary root disturbance.
If your plant arrives bare-root in shipping moss, check the roots and moisture, then gently place it into a suitable growing medium. Keep delicate roots from drying out.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
We grow our aroids in warm, stable conditions, ideally around 21–26°C, with 60–80% humidity and good airflow.
Introduce changes gradually. Cabinets and greenhouses benefit from gentle circulation fans, especially when humidity is high. Avoid leaving foliage constantly wet.
☀️ Lighting
Provide bright, indirect light or suitable grow lights. Avoid harsh direct afternoon sun and very dark positions.
Scorching or faded leaves can indicate excessive light, while slow growth and smaller leaves may suggest insufficient light. Variegation also depends on the plant’s genetics and cannot be guaranteed by lighting alone.
💧 Watering
Always check the growing medium before watering.
Moss or aroid mix: Keep lightly moist with good drainage. Allow slight drying between waterings without leaving roots completely dry.
Semi-hydro or PON: An established plant may use a small reservoir. Newly transferred plants and immature roots need closer monitoring—avoid keeping the entire root system submerged.
Fluval Stratum: Maintain consistent light moisture without allowing it to become stagnant or completely dry.
🌿 Our Feeding Routine
These are the routines we use for our own plants. Adjust feeding to suit your plant’s roots, growth stage and growing conditions, and measure concentrates into water before use.
Established Alocasias
We use GT Foliage Focus at half the recommended label strength, with GT Rootzone at one-third of the recommended label strength.
Fresh Alocasia babies
For our young, rooted babies, we use GT Clonex Clone Solution (CCS) at half strength to support their early growth.
Established Anthuriums
We use GT Foliage Focus at 5ml per litre of water. Sometimes we also add GT Rootzone at its full recommended label rate.
Alocasias growing in PON
As part of our monthly PON maintenance, we use a diluted GT Oxy-Plus 3% wash. Follow the product’s label directions for the intended application and use it separately from your nutrient feed. Regular plain-water flushing also helps remove accumulated fertiliser salts.
Optional leaf feeding
GT Foliar Spray is ready to use. Lightly mist the tops and undersides of leaves in low light, following the label directions. Avoid flowers, buds and drenching the plant.
📦 After Shipping
Your plant may shed an older leaf or pause growth while settling in. Avoid increasing fertiliser to compensate for shipping stress.
If your plant arrives in poor condition, please contact us within 24 hours with clear photos so we can help. Significant damage, mushy roots or worsening symptoms should not be dismissed as normal acclimation.
